At Home Worship Liturgy
Gathering
Ask everyone to focus their minds and their hearts on worshiping God.
Have someone read these words:
Psalm 40:4-8 (NIV)
4 Blessed is the one
who trusts in the Lord,
who does not look to the proud,
to those who turn aside to false gods.
5 Many, Lord my God,
are the wonders you have done,
the things you planned for us.
None can compare with you;
were I to speak and tell of your deeds,
they would be too many to declare.
6 Sacrifice and offering you did not desire—
but my ears you have opened—
burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not require.
7 Then I said, “Here I am, I have come—
it is written about me in the scroll.
8 I desire to do your will, my God;
your law is within my heart.”
Have someone pray:
Gracious and holy God,
give us diligence to seek you,
wisdom to perceive you,
and patience to wait for you.
Grant us, O God, a mind to meditate on you,
eyes to behold you,
ears to listen for your Word,
a heart to love you,
and a life to proclaim you,
through the power of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, our Lord.
Amen
Tell each other some things you are thankful to God for.
Confession
Have someone read these words:
Matthew 26:31-35 (NIV)
31 Then Jesus told them, “This very night you will all fall away on account of me, for it is written: “ ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ 32 But after I have risen, I will go ahead of you into Galilee.”
33 Peter replied, “Even if all fall away on account of you, I never will.”
34 “Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.”
35 But Peter declared, “Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you.” And all the other disciples said the same.
Have someone pray:
O God, our great shepherd,
you tenderly gather us as lambs, carrying us with your all-embracing love.
Yet, like sheep, we wander from you:
following our own ways, ignoring your voice.
Forgive us for having hard hearts and for not trusting you.
Guide our paths, that we might follow you more closely.
Through Jesus Christ, our good shepherd, we pray. Amen.
Have someone read these words:
2 Timothy 2:11-13 (NIV)
11 Here is a trustworthy saying:
If we died with him,
we will also live with him;
12 if we endure,
we will also reign with him.
If we disown him,
he will also disown us;
13 if we are faithless,
he remains faithful,
for he cannot disown himself.
Remind everyone that God guides us to live in thankfulness to him through his law.
Everyone read the Ten Commandments together (Exodus 20:1-17, NIV):
I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
You shall have no other gods before me.
You shall not make for yourself an image
in the form of anything in heaven above
or on the earth beneath or in the waters below...
You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God...
Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy...
Honor your father and your mother...
You shall not murder.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor.
You shall not covet...
Discuss the ways you can serve each other in thankfulness to God.
Consider calling someone who might be lonely, and talk to them.
Consider
contributing to the ministry of the church and the organizations we support.
