Gathering and Praise
Greeting from Pastor Nick, live at 9:30 AM:
With the words of this Psalm, God calls you to worship him.
Psalm 99:1-3, 9 (NIV)
The LORD reigns,
let the nations tremble;
he sits enthroned between the cherubim,
let the earth shake.
Great is the LORD in Zion;
he is exalted over all the nations.
Let them praise your great and awesome name—
he is holy.
Exalt the LORD our God
and worship at his holy mountain,
for the LORD our God is holy.
Pray this prayer:
God,
You are our King.
You have called us to serve you in worship.
You are our Great High Priest.
You came to serve us on the cross.
You are our Prophet.
We come to your feet to listen and believe.
Amen.
Praise God with the words of this song:
Confession and Assurance
Pray this prayer of confession:
Father in heaven,
You have called us to work for your kingdom,
But we confess we have often tried to build our own empires.
We have been too concerned about what we think is good.
We have been too concerned about what we want to feel.
We have been too concerned about whether we are successful.
Forgive us. And turn our hearts toward you and our neighbors.
Amen.
Read this story and think about how powerfully Jesus calls us to follow him:
Matthew 4:18-22
As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen.
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”
At once they left their nets and followed him.
Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets.
Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.
