Gathering and Praise
Greeting from Pastor Nick, live at 9:30 AM:
With the words of this Psalm, God calls you to worship him.
Psalm 95:6-7
Come, let us bow down in worship,
let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
for he is our God
and we are the people of his pasture,
the flock under his care.
Pray this prayer:
God,
We come to you and look to you
like the flock looks to its shepherd.
We know that you love us and care for us
because you have given us grace in Jesus Christ.
May our worship today be sanctified by the blood of Jesus
and accepted by your love.
Amen.
Praise God with the words of this song:
Confession and Assurance
Read these words and hear God calling you to confess your sins and promising you forgiveness in Jesus Christ:
Isaiah 1:18 (NIV):
“Come now, let us settle the matter,”
says the LORD.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
they shall be as white as snow;
though they are red as crimson,
they shall be like wool."
Pray this prayer of confession:
God,
We know that we are sinners who need forgiveness.
We know that we deserve to be punished by you.
We confess our sins to you.
Assure us that we are forgiven, that you won't punish us,
But instead embrace us as your sons and daughters.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
Read this story and think about how Jesus forgives:
Mark 2:3-12 (NIV)
Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”
Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”
